Why an extension?
Google Classroom does not let outside apps read homework. The extension only reads what your child already sees, from their browser.
Is my data private?
Yes: it is only visible to your family. The extension code is never stored in clear and you can revoke it anytime.
Which computer should it go on?
On a parent's personal computer — that's actually the recommended setup. School computers usually block extensions. Just open Chrome at home, sign in to your child's Classroom account, and the Bridge does the rest.
